CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN IMO STATE

Onyx Educational Support Services in collaboration and with the support of her partners commences the first phase of her capacity improvement workshops for teachers of primary and secondary schools.
- PREAMBLE: One of the key areas we have identified for intervention is the capacity gap in the teaching staff of our Primary and Secondary schools. Studies have shown that most teaching staff especially in the private schools do not have professional qualifications. For those who are professional teachers, they have not been exposed to periodic capacity improvement learning opportunities that will enable them perform optimally. Onyx Educational Support Services taking cognisance of this situation is providing opportunities for refresher capacity improvement training for the teaching staff of Primary and secondary schools.
- The workshop is a series of one day intensive training programme that will involve a compact class of between 12 and 15 participants with lectures as power point presentation using projector in a very conducive learning environment. It will be very interactive with a lot of group work and group presentations using scenario building, case studies and role play. The training is for both professional teachers and non professional teachers to make them better teachers that can produce great students who, tomorrow will remain forever grateful to the teacher and the school.
- Our faculties and in-house team have meticulously selected and developed appropriate modules that will enhance professionalism and equip the teacher with requisite knowledge on contemporary and emerging issues which will help make a better teacher today that will produce great students who, tomorrow will forever remain grateful to the teacher and the school. The modules that have been shortlisted to be covered in the first phase include:-
- Emotional, Self Esteem and Life Skill Attributes:-Preparing the Child for a total Development Approach.
- Education for All: Disability, Discrimination and Inclusion.
- Managing Pubescent Development in Teenagers.
- Enhancing Parent-Teacher Relationship for Improved Learning and Discipline
- Technology and Innovations: Starting right and staying right for Teenagers.
- Classroom Management Essentials: Creating the right Environment for Effective Teaching and Learning.
- Work ethics, Character Education and Discipline. Self-Supervision for teachers in the school environment.
- MODE OF PRESENTATION/FACILITATORS: – Each training will comprise of a compact class of between 12 and 15 participants with lectures as power point presentation. It will be very interactive with a lot of group work, group presentations using scenario building, role play and case studies. The Facilitators are seasoned professionals chosen from the academia, social work, development sector and technocrats in education administration. Each module is a full day training workshop.
- TRAINING FACILITY: As in any standard training programme, the workshop will hold in a very conducive environment adequate for learning activities.
- PARTICIPATION FEE/SCHEDULE: The participation fee is N20, 000.00 per school per module. A school is entitled to 2 or (maximum) 3 teachers participating for a selected module. All participants are entitled to workshop materials, tea break, lunch and certificate of participation on completion of a module set.
